What are Data Files Without Headers

Previously, the Platform’s Data Sources could not support a client file without a header row defining each column. With this update, we are now supporting a Data Source that does not have Column Headers (headerless files). This informs the Platform that to instead process the file by the column index instead of by the column names.

How to use Data Files Without Headers

This change to the data source automation process allows data ingest to handle files without headers. This means that the data in the file must be read by the position of the column in the file (index).

  • Follow the same steps as before until you get to the select “Source File Settings” screen. We have a checkbox on the “Source Files Settings” screen that enables you to select if your file contains column headers or it will use the column order.

NOTE: Do not select this checkbox if you are using a headerless file.

  • Enter your Source Fields (bulk add from text or typing and pasting the field names). Be sure to separate your Source Field names using a comma.

  • Click the "Reorder" button and reorder your Source Fields when configuring a headerless source to adjust order of columns in the Source File.

  • Drag and sort the columns of your Source Fields as you need them appear, as file data must be read by the position of the column in the file.

  • Map your Source Fields to Symend Attributes as noted in the What is the Data Source Mapper Upgrade document.
