What is the Data Source Mapper Upgrade
Data Designers previously had a more lengthy process for mapping their data sources, requiring many clicks in the steps to define the source mapping file, then followed by defining the data fields separately. We’ve streamlined the process - and made it more intuitive - by combining steps where the data source was identified and the contents were defined, into one flow. Optimizing this process into one step enables you to declare the source file and contents in one set of configuration to avoid making any mistakes.
Data Source Mapper Upgrade | Description |
---|---|
What’s New | One step to create a data source, define the file settings, and data fields. |
What’s Removed | N/A. This is a new feature. |
What’s Changed | The process of defining a data source used to be two steps: Define the File then Define the Fields. This is now combined to “Define a Data Source” where the source is identified and the fields are added to it. Mapping attributes only takes a single selection with this update as the Source Field is tied to the Source File, so Source File is filled in automatically on selection of the field. |

How do I use the Data Source Mapper Upgrade?
Previously, defining file settings and data fields was more complex but by combining those activities, fields are now assigned to files prior to being mapped to Data Attributes in the Platform. This helps avoid mistakes in your data mapping. We’ve also added instantaneous saving so you won’t lose the connection between file settings and fields.
Follow a similar process to mapping your data as before, by selecting “New Mapping”, giving your mapping a name, and then clicking the “Add Source Files” button
Enter your “New Source File” settings as before, including the File Name Pattern to identify the source file (Label, Date format, Time format) which will be http://previewed.In this example, the file name is “Horizon_Customer_Data_21102022_1238.csv”
Select the File Contents (File type, Delimiter, Date format, Time format, Timezone).
NOTE: There is a new option to select if the file has column headers. Please refer to the What are Data Files Without Headers document for more information on using header-less files.Click Save.
You’ve completed the Source File, so you can add your Source Fields by “Bulk add from text” or typing them in separating each Source Field name using a comma.Edit your Source Field names as needed.
Select your “Account Key” (remember, this is your unique identifier attribute, used for each customer in the file that the Data Automation will process).
Select your “Source Field” for each Symend Attribute, which will automatically fill in the “Source File” that this field comes from in your data mapping. This is the new part of the flow that makes it easy to select all your Data Fields that map to each Attribute.
Your data mapping of Source Fields (from your Source Files) to Symend Attributes is now completed.
