What is a Segment?
Segments are rules that define your customer audience. They allow the user to define which customer attributes should be used to define a customer group (or segment) and use this segment to take a specific action.
Where are Segments used?
Segments are used in multiple places in the Symend Platform. Segments are used to determine who is eligible for a playbook, which campaign a customer should enter, and which customers should be ejected from the playbook prior to reaching the end of a campaign.
For more information on how segment rules are used, please refer to the Getting Started with Reviewing Segments Rules article.
Creating your First Segment
You can create a segment either from scratch or by cloning an existing segment.
Create a segment from scratch
You can define a segment from scratch following the below instructions
Follow the below steps to clone an existing playbook.
Login to the Symend application
From the home page, navigate to Audience → Segments
Click on the “New Segment” button
Type in a Segment Name
Start by defining a rule
Start typing the attribute to see the list of attributes
Select the desired attribute from the list
Click on the operator dropdown to select a desired operator
Enter a value in the value text field
You can add more rules by clicking on the "Add rule" button
Rule groups can be joined by AND/OR clauses
All or Any dropdown in the top left of the rule groups will help to change the join conditions between rules in bulk.
Cloning an existing segment
You will see a pre-created segment as a result of the playbook import operation.
Follow the below steps to clone an existing playbook:
Login to the Symend application
From the home page, navigate to Audience → Segments
In the Segments listing page, select the segment you want to clone
By clicking the check box next to a Segment
Click on the duplicate button from the menu bar of the Segments listing page
The operation duplicates the selected segment
The clone or duplicate operation always creates a new copy of the Segment which can be renamed at a later point
Save or Publish a segment
Click on the “Save draft” button to save the segment in draft mode
Frequently save your work so that you will not lose the updates
Click on the Publish button to Publish a segment
A playbook referring to a segment cannot be published until the corresponding segment is published
Editing a published segment will change the segment to a draft model
Any playbooks referring to the previously published version will continue to do until the changes are re-published
Please refer to the Segmentation Information article for more details on the publish operation
